5 Things to Do This Father’s Day

The Forbidden Corner walking into the labyrinth

Planning a Father’s Day in the Yorkshire Dales?

Because if not…. WHY?! There is so much to do in and around the Yorkshire Dales for Father’s Day and we have put together our favourite five along with some gift ideas too!

We are talking Adventure Dads, History Dads, Dad’s who love a stroll to the pub ALL kinda Dads!

So take a look to see if anything floats your boat!

Abseiling in How Stean Gorge

Abseiling at How Stean Gorge

Calling all Adventure Dads!

How Stean Gorge is a top place to visit for the day! A full on outdoors adventure experience, How Stean Gorge offers Yorkshire’s only Via Ferrata, Abseiling, Gorge Scrambling and Caving too!

But have you left it too late to book?

Never fear! How Stean Gorge offers vouchers and you don’t have to book onto an adventurous day to take a stroll around the gorge and caves that are there. Love a bit of orienteering? They do that too!

Located just a stone’s throw from Pateley Bridge in Upper Nidderdale, there is plenty going on to fill the day! Why not check out our Visit Pateley Bridge with Kids Guide to find out more!

Looking at one of the waterfalls of Cray Gill

Woo hoo for waterfalls (and pubs!)

Take a Father’s Day Walk (That might feature a pub)

Yes, a pub walk might not be on ALL Dads’ lists, but I’ll hazard a guess that there are some Dads out there where this will be TOP of the list! So here are three family walks that feature a pub!

Ribblehead to Force Gill

This is for the Dads who love a train! You can walk from the Ribblehead Viaduct all the way to Force Gill and back, heading along the viaduct and up to the base of Whernside, where Force Gill is located. And yes. We love the Station Inn (which coincidentally has a cracking beer garden!)

Buckden to Cray Gill

Yes, this walk features THREE pubs!

And a million waterfalls (one pictured above). So check out our Cray Gill Walk to find out more!

Kettlewell to Great Whernside

This is one for those who fancy bagging a top 10 Yorkshire Peak as well as starting at ending in Kettlewell which has, not one, but TWO pubs and paddle and swim spots too! If this floats your boat, then check out our Great Whernside walk.

Running into the dragon's mouth at Forbidden Corner

The Forbidden Corner… not just for the kids!

Spend a bizarre day at the Forbidden Corner

The kids love Forbidden Corner, but it is NOT just for the kids! Oh no!

This place is quite frankly a playground for anybody, young or old, who appreciate the utterly bizarre and completely crazy. I challenge you to not instantly turn into a big kid when you walk in!

And if you want to make it super special, why not book yourself a table for a fancy lunch at the Saddle Rooms right next door!

Located near Leyburn in Wensleydale, we have written an in depth blog all about a visit to the Forbidden Corner, so make sure you check it out!

Rowing a boat on the river

Rowing a boat on’t river

Go row a boat!

This was us on Father’s Day last year in Otley. We headed to Otley Boats, Wharfemeadows Play Park where you can do a pushchair friendly walk to Gallows Hill Nature Reserve and then headed to North Bar in the town centre to sit in their beer garden whilst the kids played games! (Daddy’s request!)

Fancy grabbing a bite too? Head up to the Roebuck Pub, we love it there!

You can also hire a boat at Knaresborough where there are plenty of places to eat and drink too and the castle to visit as well as so much more!

Be King of the Castle

Ah yes! Who’s Dad loves a trip to a good old fashioned ruin?!

Except Skipton Castle isn’t actually a ruin, it’s a remarkably preserved medieval castle right in the heart of Skipton! You can learn all about the history of this remarkable castle, chased up by a wander around Skipton Castle Woods .

Or perhaps a trip on the canal boats, or a wander into Skipton itself!

Perfect for a History Geek Dad! (Or a History geek family…. like US!)

Whatever you get up to this Father’s Day, have a good one!
